Much of my counseling work is with people struggling with pornography, sexual addiction and other compulsive behaviors. I know it can be difficult to talk openly about these issues, particularly when a behavior has begun to affect your relationships, your sense of who you are, or the life you want to be living.
My goal is to give clients a place where they can be honest about what is happening and begin doing the work required for meaningful change. I am especially interested in helping people understand the patterns behind their behavior, develop healthier ways of responding, and move toward behavioral sobriety and stronger relationships.
My work with clients struggling with pornography also led me to look more closely at another issue I was seeing: the role screens and digital habits can play in compulsive behavior, emotional health and relationships. That interest has become another focus of my counseling work and led me to study screen use and digital dependency extensively.
I am a Licensed Associate Counselor (LAC) and Associate Sexual Addiction Therapist (ASAT). In addition, I am trained in Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART). I earned my master's degree in Mental Health Counseling from Grand Canyon University and my bachelor's degree in Communication Studies from Brigham Young University.
I'm also the author or coauthor of 34 books. My newest book, Digital Drift: The Hidden Epidemic Stealing Our Focus, Our Families, and Our Future, grew out of my interest in how our digital habits can begin affecting our behavior, relationships and well-being. This can be viewed or ordered at StopDigitalDrift.com I also founded Screen Guy (ScreenGuy.com), an educational platform focused on helping families develop healthier relationships with technology.
My wife, Christine, and I are the parents of seven children. I've also spent many years working with young people through church, community organizations and competitive soccer, and currently serve as president of the board of NOS Santos, a youth soccer organization in Arizona.
Whether someone comes to me because of pornography, sexual addiction, another compulsive pattern or concerns about technology use, I want them to know that change is possible—and that they don't have to figure out how to get there by themselves.
